Complete Refactoring Summary – LLARS

Date: 2025-11-20
Author: Claude Code (Automated Refactoring)

Summary

Three monolithic files (1,711 lines) were split into 14 focused modules (1,917 lines). All 27 API routes remain unchanged; the codebase now follows SRP/SOLID much better and is significantly more maintainable.

Refactoring #1: ScenarioRoutes.py

Before: 729 lines, 11 routes in one file
After: 4 modules, 779 lines – commit b4bd184

Module Purpose
scenario_crud.py CRUD for scenarios (list, details, create, update, delete)
scenario_management.py Thread and evaluator assignment, round‑robin distribution
scenario_resources.py Reference data (function types, users, threads per type)
scenario_stats.py Progress and status per user

Benefit: Clear responsibilities, improved testability, per‑module documentation.

Refactoring #2: routes_socketio.py

Before: 519 lines, 9 events in one file
After: 6 modules, 631 lines – commit 5c43df7

Module Purpose
chat_manager.py RAG init, chat history, prompt building
collaborative_manager.py Presence, cursor, active prompts
events_connection.py Connect/disconnect lifecycle
events_collaboration.py join/leave, cursor/block/content updates
events_chat.py Streaming chats & test prompts with RAG/vLLM
__init__.py Handler registration

Benefit: Separation of state management and events, easier navigation and tests.

Refactoring #3: MailRatingRoutes.py

Before: 463 lines, 7 routes in one file
After: 4 modules, 507 lines – commit ea83b52

Module Purpose
mail_rating_threads.py Thread lists and details for ratings
mail_rating_history.py Thread‑level rating + status calc
mail_rating_messages.py Per‑message ratings (thumbs, duplicate detection)
mail_rating_stats.py Admin progress/status stats

Benefit: Feature‑separated files, clear focus per rating type, easier maintenance.

Tests & Compatibility

  • Syntax checks for all new modules (python -m py_compile …) passed
  • All 27 endpoints unchanged (URLs, methods, decorators)
  • WebSocket events unchanged, state handling separated
  • No DB migration required

Open Large Files (possible candidates)

  • routes.py – split by features
  • RatingRoutes.py, RankingRoutes.py – structure like MailRating
  • UserPromptRoutes.py – split into CRUD, sharing, templates

Team Benefits

  • Faster navigation and code reviews via smaller files
  • Lower conflict probability with parallel work
  • Better testability and clearer responsibilities per module
